Fine Art Photography. The Tableau（周末全天班）

'The Tableau' is a term used in Fine Art that refers to a striking frozen scene telling a powerful story, either in Painting or Fine Art photography. Tableau is also used a great deal within the photography industry including in Fashion, Portraiture and Advertising.

With this in mind, we as a group will take on an idea and develop a brief, and then move to a variety of locations on the streets of Beijing with our equipment.

We will then use a professional photographic studio, learning about flashes and lighting, and using models, backdrops and sets. When we go back to our chosen location we will have a portable flash kit and will shoot on set to create a well composed shot: a perfect image suitable for the creative industry or gallery walls.

We will then visit a professional printer and learn the various options for printing and mounting techniques, which is required for showing work in galleries. You will be able take home an original work of art that you and your team have created.

DAY 1 (24th May / 14th June)

Introductory talk and discussion on Fine Art Photography: the Photography Industry and what is 'The Tableau'?

We will discuss Fine Art photography, its various movements and genres, how it is now considered and recognized as a 'bona fide' Fine Art practice amongst critics, galleries, national museums and the viewing public. Critically acclaimed artists command high prices just as paintings and other fine art works do, for example one of Andrea Gersky's photographs sold for over £2 .5 Million in 2011.

We shall take an in- depth look at some artists work and discuss their visual language, looking at both industry photographers and artists who use Tableaux such as Annie Leibovitz (Vanity Fair), Steven Meisel (Dolce Gabanna) and artists Sandy Skoglund, Jeff Wall and Sam Taylor-Wood.

We will discuss the importance of continuity, editing and creating a series of work for portfolios. The talk will continue with a group discussion on the project brief and the narrative decisions the team will have to make for the final shoot.

Getting to know your digital camera and other photographic equipment is important to produce a high quality photograph. We shall cover all the fundamentals using your own camera whether its a 120 / 35mm film or the latest Digital SLR. Understanding the camera functions, what is RAW, Jpeg and Tiff files, understanding the aperture, the focal length / depth of field, light balance and importantly what is composition and how can you gain the best shot?

We will start the photographic fieldtrip and location scouting, looking for places to tell our story for our final shoot, while using our camera equipment and appreciating how to use your camera to its full ability.

Day 2 (25th May / 15th June)

Starting with a talk on studio lighting techniques, examining various examples that artists and photographers use to get a dynamic shot.

We will visit and shoot in a professional studio using flashes and light equipment, and gain understanding of terms such as soft boxes, snoots and slaves! We will shoot a series of portrait shots.

教授影棚灯光的运用，测试运用不同艺术家和摄影师常用有效的示范例子。 我们将参观并使用专业摄影棚拍摄，并学习诸如soft box ，snoots和slaves的运用！

Day 3 (31st May / 21st June)
We will be using portable studio lighting and bring together the props and cast for our final location shoot. We should now have a decision on the location and an idea that we can work on and we will spend a lot of the day on location creating the tableau that we have been working towards.

Editing and Photoshop.

We as a group will discuss the images that we created, and decide on which are the most dynamic and successful. By using Photoshop we will learn various techniques such as touch- up and colour- balance to finish the image ready for printing.

DAY 4 (1st June / 22nd June)
Firstly, we will finish any necessary continuation of the editing process, and any final adjustments will be made with Photoshop.

Professional Printers.
What are the differences between C-types and Ink jet printing? What is expected for gallery exhibition and portfolio preparations? What is archival? We will visit a professional printer and go through all the various paper and printing options.

Mounting
Galleries demand your work is well presented, and archival sound. With our images printed we can now get them mounted or framed. We will visit a framer and run through the best options. You will now have a perfect piece of work that you can take home.
